How To Stay Active While Aging

Growing old is not something we can stop. While we might have once celebrated the increase in number with a wish on a candle and the cut of cake, we might seem to be hesitant to do so, as the numbers keep increasing further and further. Of course firstly you should be blessed that you are getting to cut that cake with that many candles, but nevertheless, we might not seem as accepting as we were once before. This might be because we share society’s view on aging and that is, old equals weak. And we never seem to want, to ever fall to that group no matter what. And so, we might disregard this fact on the whole. However, at one point or the other, we have to realize that nothing we do shall stop this process of aging. And so the best thing to do during such times is, to make the best use out of it by staying fit and healthy and trying to avoid unnecessary visits to the doc. Here is what you could do to help yourself in achieving this goal.

Being physically active

Your body might be growing old, and the best thing to do during this time is to make it active and fit as possible. This way there is a lesser chance to suffer from physically illnesses and injuries. Enroll yourself in some exercise or yoga classes that not only helps in being physically fit but also mentally as well. Yoga is encouraged to be followed by many as it is one of the best ways of instilling calmness within your body. You could also take up riding a bike if you are confident with your capabilities for it, or you could try walking around the neighborhood or park. All these little physical activities could go a long way even in reducing your chances for suffering from diseases like arthritis and such. So just because you might be in a aged care homes with others that are going through the same process as you, doesn’t mean you have to give up on your active lifestyle. Instead try to be as active as possible without simply choosing to lie around doing nothing.

Being mentally active

If being too physically involved seems too difficult to cope with your body and its conditions, you could try keeping your brain and mind active, while also giving physical workout a little try to a certain extent. One way of doing so is by quizzing yourself with some puzzles you see on the newspapers, or trying out some board games and such. Give yourself the opportunity to learn something new. After all, it is never too late to gain knowledge and all you have to do is look for it. You could also try reading a couple books by borrowing some from the library or local bookstores. This way you would be spending your time in a more efficient and productive way. If you don’t want to be a part of a particular home to spend the rest your life in, you could choose to hire in home aged care, so that you could be more close with your family while also improving on little things that could benefit your overall wellbeing. Through this you could ensure that you are mentally, emotionally and physically active. Follow the above and ensure that you have an active lifestyle even while you age!
